A Study on Mental Health Literacy and Social Relationship Among Marriage Migration Females

Abstract
This study is aimed to (1) identify level of mental health literacy and (2) the association between mental health literacy and social relationship among marriage migration females. Using a cross-sectional survey with a quota sampling strategy, We collected 208 people marriage migration females during April, 2013 with self-administered questionnaire and analyzed responses from 193 people. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, and hierarchical multiple regression with the SPSS 21.0 program. The mental health literacy level of marriage migration females was low 2.9¡¾1.05 and they had difficulty in understanding mental health service informations and programs. Factors influencing mental health literacy were education level, ability to understand spoken Korean, self-rated health status, and depression level. Social support and social network of social relationship were associated with mental health literacy controlled by population characteristics and health-related variables. Efforts to improve mental health literacy of marriage migration females may need to enhance social relationship (social support and social network) through community-based education programs.
